Nature’s flows – the patterns of species at all scales in wild settings – have intrigued me for as long as I can remember. These I have studied professionally over the past 40 years. Now that I am retired, I want to explore nature’s flows creatively, and share my insights with you

I share here my writings and photo essays that reflect my passion for nature’s flows that arise from encounters with wild and scenic places embodied in natural history and adventure, particularly surfing and river kayaking. There are also poems and stories, the latter contributing to a memoir that I may write some day. Also included are commentaries on the politics of conserving nature. A theme that flows through much of my work is human evolution, particularly the ways in which early modern humans, who likely emerged somewhere in southern Africa, depended upon and appreciated the spiritual significance of nature’s flows.
